Magnetic Golf Ball Markers: How They Work and Which to Buy

Nobody knows where their ball marker is until three people are waiting for them to find it.

A magnetic golf ball marker ends the search. The metal body snaps onto a hat clip or a magnetic pitch mark repairer, rides there for the whole round, and lands in your palm the moment you reach the green. Every marker we make works this way: heavyweight metal, hard enamel artwork, £11.99.

How a magnetic ball marker works

The marker itself is solid metal; the magnet sits in whatever carries it, usually a clip on the brim of a cap or the seat of a divot tool. Ours weigh around 10g and run 25mm across, enough metal to hold firm through 18 holes, a jog back to the buggy, and the occasional flight across the green to a mate who forgot his.

That weight is also the test at the till. If a marker won't grip a magnet, it's plastic, and it will spend its life loose at the bottom of a pocket you never check.

Where to keep one

On the cap. A standard magnetic hat clip sits on the brim with the marker on show. You mark your ball roughly 30 times a round, and this puts the marker one hand-height away every single time.

On the divot tool. Our magnetic pitch mark repairers (£14.99) carry the marker on a seat up top. Both green-side jobs, repairing your crater and marking your ball, arrive in one hand.

A pocket still works on cap-free days. The marker survives it; your pre-putt routine gets slower.

The pair that shares one magnet

Casino Royale, Ace of Skulls 2, 777, Poker Chip, Roulette and Dia de los Muertos each run as a marker and pitch mark repairer in the same artwork. The marker clips to the tool, the tool clips to your routine, and the pair costs under £27. If it's for someone else, we've written up the whole approach in golf ball marker gifts.

Magnetic ball marker FAQs

Are magnetic golf ball markers legal?

Completely. The Rules of Golf accept any artificial object as a ball marker, and a magnet changes nothing about how the marker sits on the green. The full rulebook on marking, including the one-stroke mistake to avoid, is in how to mark a golf ball.

Will the magnet affect my golf ball?

No. Golf balls contain rubber, resin and urethane, none of which a magnet can touch. The magnet's only job is holding the marker to its clip between greens.

Do magnetic ball markers work with any hat clip?

Any standard magnetic clip. Our markers are solid metal at around 10g, so they hold to the brim through wind, rain and one demonstrative putter twirl.

What if I don't wear a cap?

The divot tool seat does the same job from your pocket, and the two come out together on every green anyway. Either way you'll find it faster than a coin.

You already own a cap with a spare brim. The golf ball markers collection has over 20 magnetic designs in stock to put on it.
