Which Hand Do You Wear a Golf Glove On?
"Wear on Left" has confused more new golfers than the rules of the game ever will.
The answer is one line: you wear a golf glove on your lead hand, the opposite of your swing. Right-handed golfers glove the left hand. Left-handed golfers glove the right. A glove labelled "Wear on Left" is built to fit a left hand, which makes it the standard glove for a right-handed player.
Why the lead hand gets the glove
Your lead hand sits at the top of the grip and does most of the holding. Through the swing it takes the friction, which is why golfers who play bare-handed grow their blisters there first. The glove adds tack and spreads that pressure, so the club stays put without you strangling it.
The trail hand has a different job: feel. It rests lighter on the club and reads the shot, and leaving it bare keeps that touch, especially on chips and putts.
Why golfers wear only one glove
Same logic, finished: one hand grips, one hand feels. Nothing in the rules limits you to one, and a handful of tour players do wear two. Wet-weather gloves come in pairs for exactly that reason, because when the grips are soaked, feel loses the argument.
What the label means when you buy
Gloves are sold by the hand they fit, not the hand you swing with. "Wear on Left" fits the left hand: the right-handed golfer's glove, and about 95% of everything sold. Do you have to wear a glove at all?
